Synbio Meetup: Biosensors w/ Andreas Frutiger from Lino Biotech

Event Photo Recap

In our first meetup, we are excited to host Andreas Frutiger. He is a co-founder and the VP of R&D of Lino Biotech, a recently formed startup that emerged out of a collaboration between ETH and Roche Innovation Center. He holds a Ph. D. from ETH Zurich and has won numerous awards during his studies.

After the talk, we will go to the BQM bar where you can get to know other SynBio enthusiasts!

From Andreas:
Biosensors - Interfaces between biology and the digital world and why you should know about focal Molography.

In this talk, I will introduce you to the importance of interfaces and the challenge associated with transducing a biological signal to the digital domain. I will motivate physically why a biosensing method – focal Molography – is the optimal way to connect to a biological system and to for instance observe signaling cascades label-free within living cells. And actually, this example is only the beginning, focal Molography combined with synthetic biology could finally enable us to emulate the sense of smell and taste technologically as it happened in the 1970s for the sense of vision with the advent of the CCD chip.
